Medical-equipment company Hill-Rom Holdings Inc. said Friday that it agreed to buy the German company Volker for $85 million.

Hill-Rom said Volker makes long term care and acute care bed frames, surfaces, and furniture, and it had about $100 million in revenue in 2010. Hill-Rom said the deal will add 2 to 3 cents per share to its profit next year.

Shares of Hill-Rom Holdings rose 9 cents to $32.25 in afternoon trading.
