Sportlink, Inc., a company dedicated to offering affordable heart screenings to student athletes throughout the nation in an effort to combat Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD), announced today that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Heart Care Centers of Illinois.

The partnership allows for Sportlink to offer the Cardiac Life Screen-an echocardiogram and EKG specifically tailored to athletes between the ages of 12-22-in Heart Care Centers of Illinois' Palos Park location. Sudden Cardiac Death statistics run the gamut; however, Midwest Heart Foundation, a 501(c) 3 dedicated to improving the prevention of management of cardiovascular and related diseases, estimates that roughly twenty kids a day die from undetected heart conditions.

"The fundamental purpose of Sportlink is to provide an affordable heart screen to as many kids as possible," said Joel DeJong, Founder and President of Sportlink. "Through our partnership with Heart Care Centers of Illinois, we are able to offer the Cardiac Life Screen on a much larger scale. We plan to expand into their other locations as demand for the screening increases." Most incidents of sudden cardiac death occur in athletes that are seemingly healthy, and occur at a rate two to three times as high as their less active peers. Sudden Cardiac Death conditions are treatable if detected.

The Cardiac Life Screen has a sensitive rate of 90% compared to the industry average of 3%.
