CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Lantos Technologies today announced the launch of its 3D digital scanner for fast and painless measurement of the ear canal. The small, hand-held portable scanner using Lantos patented dual-wavelength algorithm technology is the first platform capable of measuring direct ear scans as well as ear canal dynamics and tissue elasticity.

Developed in the research laboratories of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, this pioneering 3D imaging technology replaces traditional methods to bring science to the art of impression taking. The Lantos 3D Ear Scanner (FDA pre-market clearance pending) will be on display at AudiologyNOW!, the American Academy of Audiology's annual meeting from March 28-31, 2012 in Boston, MA. Representatives from Lantos Technology will be periodically demonstrating the scanner and its capabilities at booth number 1894 and MR014. The scanner will also be on display at the Starkey booth, number 1353, which will have a Concept Office featuring live demonstrations of the Lantos 3D Ear Scanner and other state-of-the-art innovations, the adoption of which will enable audiologists to differentiate their practice.

"Use of the Lantos scanning technology represents a significant advancement for the audiology industry, where conventional methods of impression taking for an audio device are uncomfortable and unreliable," said Jeff Leathe, Chairman and CEO at Lantos Technologies, "direct digital ear scanning, comfort dynamics and ear canal compliance measurements represent the next frontier for the hearing aid industry."

The Lantos solution is an open platform, available to all hearing aid manufacturers, providing an all in one device capable of both 2D high definition video otoscope and 3D direct ear scans. The device comes in a small, portable hand held form factor designed in close collaboration with the lead user base of the audiology community.

The technologys ability to provide digital mapping of the human ear canal presents unparalleled opportunities for the custom headphone market and paves the way for new advancements in smart custom fit earphones enabling unprecedented user control of acoustic environments.

Representatives from Lantos Technologies will be at AAA AudiologyNOW! booth number 1894, with the scanner to be demonstrated at defined times throughout the event. The system is on schedule for sale in the US in the second half of 2012.
