Researchers in the Newman Laboratory for Biomechanics and Human Rehabilitation have measured the stiffness of the ankle in various directions using a robot called the “Anklebot.”

Anklebot was first developed at MIT back in 2005. Dustin Williams (MIT S.M. 2001), of Interactive Motion Technologies Inc., helps Hermano Igo Krebs, a principal research scientist in MIT's mechanical engineering department, put on the Anklebot, a robotic device designed to help stroke patients regain movement in paralyzed ankles.
