The MCP4725 digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is said to be the industry’s first DAC to combine integrated EEPROM and 12-bit resolution in a miniature, six-pin SOT-23 package. The low-power, single-channel DAC has a buffered voltage output and is suitable for space-constrained portable and battery-powered applications. Non-volatile EEPROM enables the DAC settings to be recalled at power up, meaning a microcontroller is not required if the DAC output does not need to change. The DAC’s low power consumption of 0.06 µA in shutdown helps extend battery life. Additionally, its onboard precision output amplifier enables a rail-to-rail analog output, so the DAC output fully uses the entire voltage range.
