The ThermaCool NXT is Thermage's next-generation system for non-invasive skin tightening and contouring. The system has a flat-panel LCD screen, which is attached to a moveable cart. The NXT screen has a large viewing area with an enhanced display that is bright, crisp, and easy-to-read. Thermage redesigned the on-screen instructions so that the current system status and treatment settings are easier to see. Unfortunately, general wear and tear has offset these design improvements. Because the system is moved around frequently and because of its on-screen display and controls, the LCD screen is extremely susceptible to marring and scratching. It is also cleaned frequently, which caused the uncoated acrylic previously used on ThermaCool NXT systems to become “hazy.”
Brian Gauck, ThermaCool NXT product manager, explained that Thermage is now using Acrylite abrasion-resistant optical grade acrylic sheet from Cyro Industries as a protective lens/shield on the LCD of the ThermaCool NXT system.
“We were receiving many complaints about systems arriving with scratched LCDs,” Gauck added. “Now, they’re still being shipped long distances, but we’re not seeing these complaints anymore.”
Acrylite improves the clarity and brilliance of the display with increased light transmission, while reducing the unwanted glare and reflection that often interferes with the display. Another benefit of the optical grade sheet is its special coating that minimizes scratches and resists chemicals. Additionally, it can be cleaned like glass, but has half the weight.
