Product Development Technologies, Inc. (PDT), a division of TZ Limited was enlisted by Heathrow Scientific to develop their next generation pipette filler, the Rota-Filler 5000 (RF5000) Pipette. PDT's development team of industrial designers, mechanical and electrical engineers and model makers worked to advance the existing product. The new pipette features exceptional aspirate and dispense control in a compact, ergonomic design.
With the understanding that long-term pipette operation can lead to Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI), such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, PDT's industrial design team conducted ergonomic studies to base concepts with varied form, grip, and trigger placement with the goal of reducing ergonomic injuries among laboratory workers from the use of pipettes.
PDT's designers introduced the concept of an articulating pipette holder that pivots through an angle of 20 degrees. This feature ensures that the operator's wrist is in a comfortable position not only for regular pipetting but also when they reach for samples within confined spaces. The device's patent-pending ergonomic pistol-type grip has an adjusting arm that provides greater range of motion for the pivoting nozzle and more indexing points. Information: www.pdt.com
