Vytran has introduced the “LFS-4100,” a new precision optical fiber splicer designed for use on fibers as large as 1.25 mm in diameter. The company will show the LFS-4100 at the LASER World of PHOTONICS exhibition in Munich, Germany, from May 13-16, 2013.
Splicing large diameter fibers is particularly critical for applications such as fiber laser manufacturing and producing many fiber-based medical devices. The LFS-4100 uses proprietary filament fusion technology to create high-strength, low-loss splices on both standard and specialty fibers, including polarization maintaining (PM) fibers, photonic crystal fiber (PCF) and non-circular shapes. The system is ideal for volume manufacturing, combining a high degree of user process control with simple operation.
